He had spent the prior week with a display of his craft at a GFA conference that had convened in nearby Columbus, Georgia. Although, it is not uncommon for guitar builders to seek us out to show and hopefully sell us their wares, it is very uncommon for us to purchase, on the spot, unfamiliar instruments made by someone whom we have only just encountered. Alejandro and his guitars were an exception. Not only did we find him to be engaging and extremely likable, we also loved his guitars. And, we surprised him and ourselves when we bought four of them. The quality we like most about Cervantes guitars is their tone color. All of his guitars, no matter which model, share a tonal characteristic that is the sound equivalent of a family trait. This is attractive to us, because we strive to have instruments for our customers which have some distinctive element to their sound that clearly differentiates them from others, that makes them a separate class of sound - somewhat like fine wines of differing varieties. The guitars Alejandro makes and has made for him under his supervision all have an unusual internal resonance that imbues their voice with a remarkably smooth and blended sheen - a cathedral like reverberation that adds a shimmering halo to their sound.
