Pardo, A. Raya: PARDO SPRUCE

(Item ID: PARDO SPRUCE    Serial#: 1977)

Antonio Raya Pardo Guitar PARDO SPRUCE 1977 Antonio Raya Pardo Classical with European Spruce and Indian Rosewood

Some of the finest classical and flamenco guitars made in Spain today come from a small group of highly esteemed luthiers who live and work in the city of Granada. This community of guitar makers, often referred to as the Granada School, includes names like: Marin, Plazuelo, Lopez, Ferrer, Bellido, Peņa, and Antonio Raya Pardo. Their instruments are among the best available worldwide.

This 1977 Pardo features a larger body and a longer scale length than the more modern examples of his work that we have seen. The neck has a more pronounced shoulder than is common, and, along with the 664mm scale, it seems a little unwieldy at first handling, but soon after one plays it, one doesn't notice it - probably because the players attention is immediately riveted instead on the mesmerizing sound this guitar produces. The voice of this fine instrument is marked by an unusual density of tone, clarity, evenness, and balance that is remarkably uniform over its entire range. Because of this, each voice of a chord can be more easily blended, and, likewise, efforts to control changes in timbre when crossing strings or shifting positions are much reduced. Moreover, this guitar seems to invite dynamic playing, as one can dig in without fear of over playing it and is, instead, rewarded for the effort with a more saturated, intense body of tone.

This guitar is in superb structural condition, and while it does have some playing wear and other minor blemishes, we would rate its cosmetic condition as excellent overall.
