Hill, Kenny: USD HILL FLETA(Item ID: USD HILL FLETA Serial#: 2007)
2004 Master Series Fleta Model with Rosewood and Cedar
Before he began to concentrate his production solely on two of his own models, Kenny Hill and his small team of craftsmen produced a line of guitars called the Master Series - beautiful hand made classical and flamenco guitars based on works of the finest historical guitar makers. We sold them in our store, and, like many of our customers, we were disheartened when Kenny discontinued production of the series. The following is what Kenny had to say about the Master Series, and the Fleta model in particular, when they were the focus of his work:
"The designs of old masters such as Hauser, Fleta, Torres, Rodriguez, and others insure results that have been tried and proven by generations of luthiers and concert artists. It is an intriguing challenge to study the details of these instruments, searching for minutia offering clues to methods, reasoning and instincts that produce the unique results from each builder's style.
The design of Ignacio Fleta guitars is unique. He came from a violin making tradition, and some of his techniques clearly show that influence. Most notably he uses a dovetail joint for the neck instead of the traditional Spanish "integral neck" design. Also, the body is built heavily with several extra braces on the top and back, large neck and heel blocks, and the neck angle and bridge are rather high. Yet, for all of it's extra mass, this Fleta style guitar produces exceptional power and a deep, rich sustain for a muscular, full-voiced, concert sound."
It is a pleasure to have this 2004 Master Series Fleta model in our shop. This model has always been one of our favorites from the Master Series, because, as Kenny states above, its unique build design imbues its voice with a special combination of power and clarity. In the case of this "played in" guitar, not only will one appreciate these salient characteristics, but one will also enjoy the mature quality of its tone and the dynamic responsiveness of its voice.
One should know that this guitar was owned by a performer/teacher who used this guitar regularly. As such, because it features a French polished shellac finish, its has some considerable wear in the areas where the player's chest and arm made contact with the instrument, and, there is playing and handling wear as well. In spite of these cosmetic issues, the structural condition of this guitar is superb. Thus, its playability and sound are excellent.
This guitar includes an access hardshell case. (used)
