R. Taylor Style 3 Dreadnought (Serial# 003-2011)This beautiful Style 3 custom dreadnought has many attractive features including: Indian rosewood back and sides, an Adirondack spruce top with a Tobacco sunburst and abalone soundhole inlay, Adirondack spruce top bracing, Tropical mahogany neck with RT standard carve and Indian rosewood headstock overlay, ebony fingerboard with slot diamond and ebony inlays and a 1.75" bone nut, a custom compensated bone saddle, tortoise body binding, ebony bridge pins, and an ebony strap pin. As Taylor is rumored to be closing the R.Taylor custom shop, perhaps because of the great success of their BTO program, unique instruments such as this superb example which are already uncommon will be even more rare in the future. Keep in mind that the R. Taylor guitars are made by a select group of highly skilled luthiers who work in a separate exclusive facility on the Taylor campus. These instruments are not made in the adjoining factory facility as are the BTO guitars and the other standard models current in their catalog. When we toured there a few years ago, this building housed their sound stage, the R&D teams, and a beautiful state of the art workshop with an adjoining suite of individual workstations for the R. Taylor luthiers. On the day we visited Bob Taylor was hanging out there showing Bill Collings around. Also, it may interest some to know that when we visit the NAMM shows, the R. Taylor staff exhibit these custom instruments in a completely different, independent space (usually a different exhibition hall) from the main Taylor exhibit which serves to highlight these instruments as unique one-off guitars. This superb 2011 model is in near mint condition and it has a wonderfully balanced, full-bodied, rich firm tone - it may be the the best sounding Taylor dreadnought we have ever had in our shop. It responds with ease to fingerstyle playing and enhances one's music with warmth and color. When played pickstyle one will be thrilled by the weight, definition and clarity that marks the voice of this exceptional instrument. This guitar includes a custom Armitage archtop hardshell case with a stitched Taylor logo. (used)
