From the Cole Clark website:
"Cole Clark guitars combine classical construction with innovative design and manufacturing techniques to produce lighter, stronger instruments with superior acoustic performance. Made in Austrailia using indigenous timber and featuring Face Brace Sensor acoustic pickup systems, Cole Clark guitars provide professional quality at affordable prices.
The Bridge-Face control on the preamp allows frequencies above the preampís 350Hz cross-over to be mixed from soundboard or bridge pickup, while the big clean bottom end frequencies are always sourced from the bridge pickup, which helps control feedback. The Mic control allows fading of the internal mic to amplify top-end frequencies (>2.1kHz), which provides a very natural and softened top end response. The result is an exceptionally responsive live guitar and truly must be heard to be believed."
This Cole Clark Angel 2 came to us recently on a trade and it is in excellent overall condition. For those unfamiliar with this brand, Cole Clark is an Australian made brand. We are not a dealer for this brand, but I have played a number of their guitars and I find them to be very similar to Maton guitars (the preferred live guitar of Tommy Emmanuel), which are also made in Australia. Both brands actively practice using sustainable materials (e.g., Queensland Maple), and both brands tend to favor a more Spartan, utilitarian aesthetic treatment. I have found both Cole Clark and Maton guitars to be on the brighter side, acoustically. This guitar definitely has a crisper attack with a very even, well-defined, and clear note definition; yet, it does have some depth and space in its voice that make for a pleasing resonance. From a playability standpoint, this guitar does have a deeper C-carve to the neck, which I find comfortable, but I would be quick to say that it is not a Taylor-esque ultra slim neck!
Perhaps the most impressive feature of the Cole Clark guitars is their amplified tone -they are great live guitars! Their inherently bright, balanced acoustic voice makes for a more manageable signal (i.e., one that is not overly woofy). Moreover, Cole Clark has their own pickup system that involves three signal sources: an under-saddle pickup, a soundboard top sensor, and a mic. Despite the complexity of three different signal sources, the preamp is quite simple and easy to adjust, such that a player of any skill level can get good results. Bearing this in mind, I would characterize this particular guitar as a very well rounded instrument that would be ideal for a player who needs a reliable live guitar.
