1968 00-18C Classical with Mahogany and Spruce

A little background on this model from our late, dear fiend, Stan Jay, of Mandolin Brothers describing another example of this model guitar:

"Martin Guitar Company made dedicated classical guitars starting in 1936 with the 00-18G (for Gut strings) earlier version, and then, between 1962 and 1976 they made 4,231 00-18C (for Classical) plus 4 more in ’79, ’80 and ’87. In this guitar’s year, 1968, the peak production year for the model, they made 250.

The Style-18C Martins of this time feature: a thin four-ply white-black top purfling, tortoise shell plastic top and back side bindings; a three concentric ring rosette comprised of two outer rings of black with a center ring of 7 plies; black top and back bindings; a thin black line for the backstripe; Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, bridge and headstock overlay; small “C F Martin & Co. Est. 1833” decal logo in gold bordered in black; rounded slots in the headstock, and tuners with plastic off-white buttons."

The original owner reports that though she played this guitar sparingly, she nevertheless cared for it lovingly. That being the case, this fifty year old 00-18C is in superb condition with barely a trace of playing wear, no finish checking, and hardly any handling wear to speak of. In fact, it has such a fine appearance that one might even mistake it for new. And its structural condition is equally exceptional: no signs of stress; no cracks; everything tight as a drum; as clean on the inside as the outside; and an excellent neck with a very comfortable action. Complementing this list of superlatives is this instrument's splendid sound which one will enjoy for its warmth and sweetness. In sum, it is no exaggeration to state that this guitar is the best example of this model that we have seen, and with respect to vintage guitars generally, this guitar easily meets the highest standards by which one is measured.

This guitar includes a TKL hardshell case. (used)
