360 Baritone with Doghair Finish

360 Baritone with Doghair Finish

$5,975.00

“Expanding on the configuration of our popular 360 LT M model, the new Collings 360 Baritone opens up a whole new range of sonic possibilities. The comfortable offset body style, 27.5” scale, and stable Mastery bridge and tremolo create a playability and string tension feel that will make any traditional electric player right at home. Dual Lollar Alnico Pole P90’s beautifully communicate the rich, woody qualities of the baritone sound combined with the acoustical focus and punch of the 360 body style.”- From the Collings Website

Needless to say, a baritone is one of the better known specialty guitars. They can often be heard on genres ranging from outlaw country to metal. This version of the 6-string guitar offers the player and group a unique and aurally pleasing sound that is often described as liquid-like or gutteral. While these characteristics are fairly accurate and true, I believe the baritone guitar to be an incredibly versatile instrument to be used in a vast array of musical styles.

In typical Collings fashion, this 360 LTM is perhaps one of the smoothest feeling baritone guitars on the market. Many times, a baritone guitar has an incredibly evident difference in overall feel than a standard 6-string. With this guitar, Collings has crafted it in such a way that gives it a very familiar feel, much like that of a regular electric. The neck profile fills up your palm quite nicely without taking too much movement away from your hand for fast chord changes and lead lines. The body is the same shape as the standard 360 that has various contours and bevels that make it a bit more comfortable to both sit and stand with. There is a perfect balance of comfort and class that this guitar possesses in spades.

Certainly just as notable as its striking doghair finish is this guitar's sound. The Lollar Alnico Pole P90 pickups give this instrument an aura of touch sensitivity and expressiveness. As many already know, P90 pickups have a lusted-after midrange that makes them easily cut through a mix without being harsh or sharp in any way. They respond incredibly well to the players touch and also do a wonderful job of representing the lower frequencies that thrive in a guitar that is tuned to B standard. There is much to be loved in the low end of this Collings and the pickups spare no expense when translating the nuance of one's dynamic playing.

There is a unique versatility in these guitars that is often overlooked. Many think of a baritone guitar as a one-trick-pony, when in reality it holds a vast array of potential as a full range guitar. One has the opportunity to combine bass and lead lines in the lower register, while finding interesting new voicings of chords we've known and loved for many years. In a funk setting, the baritone holds its own against a stratocaster. In rock, you can achieve an enormous sound from a single note. Even jazz holds potential for a baritone guitar to disrupt the status quo. There is something for the baritone guitar to excel at in just about any musical setting it exists in. With all things considered, it's easy to feel like there is a baritone shaped hole in one's collection.
