Taylor Guitars 455-L30 2004 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Jumbo 12-String with Gloss Sitka Spruce Top and Satin Ovangkol Back and Sides and Baggs Passive Pickup

General Description

Of all the current manufacturers of acoustic guitars, Taylor is probably due the most credit in the modernization of the 12-string guitar. One has to admit that the combination of Taylor’s signature brilliance and shimmer with their ever-popular slim neck contour is a potent pairing when cooking up a great 12-string. Mixed with the now-discontinued “55” Super Jumbo body, these attributes yield a 12-string voice that is dynamic, clear, and robust with great playability to boot! No wonder the Taylor 12-string was the choice for a player like Leo Kottke, who was able to transform what most consider strictly a strumming guitar into a medium for great fingerstyle music.

This 455 L-30 was part of a limited run for Taylor’s 30th Anniversary in 2004 and thus bears a few unusual features, such as the myrtle leaf motif fingerboard inlays and the Koa rosette. The original owner of this guitar recently returned it to Taylor to have a top crack repaired; and, while it was there, Taylor technicians elected to reset the neck, level and re-fret the fingerboard, replace the saddle, and re-adjust the action of the guitar. Thus, this guitar is not only structurally sound, but also in exceptional playing condition and ready to go for the foreseeable future.

Cosmetic Description

While this guitar has been restored from a playability standpoint, and is otherwise structurally sound, it does have a number of cosmetic points of wear in addition to some repairs. The good folks at Taylor did not refinish this guitar (as that was not the aim), so there are a number of evident finish chips on the edge of the neck heel and along the binding edge at various points. Most notably, the guitar has three fairly long repaired cracks on the back in addition to the aforementioned top crack (which extends from the bridge to the butt of the guitar). Otherwise, the guitar has normal signs of play wear, but no egregious dings, scratches, gouges, to report. GOOD CONDITION
