Paul Mcgill: MCGILL SPR/BRW(Item ID: MCGILL SPR/BRW Serial#: 146)
Paul McGill Classical with Brazilian Rosewood and European Spruce
We were introduced to Paul McGill and his guitars by Jerry Roberts more than forty years ago after he had moved to Nashville to open a workshop and pursue a career of passion - guitar making. Like all of the top builders we have known personally, Paul's talent for this craft was plainly evident in the earliest examples of his work which showed off his exceptional woodworking skills, excellent taste for detail, and an ability to produce an instrument with a distinctive voice marked by excellent balance, clarity, and tone color. And as the quest for perfection never ceases in the life of a maturing artisan, Paul's later work only got better.
This guitar (#146), which we sold to its previous owner in 1997, is a perfect example of Paul's luthrie talents. Featuring crisp lines combined with simply gorgeous woods and other subtle highlights, this fine guitar could please an owner by its appearance alone. But, a player will immediately enjoy this guitar more for the fine instrument that it is. For, it has a dynamic, full-bodied, responsive voice with a warm, yet remarkably clear tone that is beautifully blended through each register. Moreover, its trebles shimmer with color, and there is a pleasing internal reverb that adds depth to its tonal palette. A pleasure to behold, a joy to play.
This guitar is in superb condition with hardly a trace of playing wear and a bare minimum of handling wear.
