2016 17-Series 00 with Sitka Spruce Top and Genuine Mahogany Back and Sides

General Description:

Much like the all-mahogany 15-series, the 17-series Martin guitars represent one of the industry’s best values. For many years, the 17-series resembled what we now consider a 15-series guitar in that they were all-solid mahogany with a gloss finish. In recent years, the 17-series has been revised to have a spruce top, like the very ealiest 17-series guitars (though these had rosewood back and sides). Compared to the mahogany top, the Sitka spruce lends the voice more clarity and sparkle, with a touch more harmonic content. While Spartan in appearance, the 17-series have a lot going on under the hood, so to speak, that enables them to deliver a stunning projection and resonance. Most important in achieving this power and responsiveness is the lightweight construction; and, in the case of the 00L-17, the pre-war thinner ¼” bracing thickness. In listening to the 17-series guitars, one could readily make the argument that they not only faithfully channel the presence of a good vintage guitar, but that they do so at a fraction of the cost no less!

The 00L-17 is effectively a Martin take on a classic Gibson L-00 body. This is clearly a departure from the classic Martin 14-fret 00, which sports a little more upper bout breadth, making it appear more evenly proportioned. Much like the Gibson it emulates, this body design yields a voice with more mid-range emphasis. Yet, like any artist with an established style, Martin cannot help but infuse this design with their own signature bass response and earthy note foundation. Thus, one finds a love-child of two legendary manufacturers in this charming guitar, a sum that exhibits only the better parts of its contributors.

Cosmetic Condition:

This guitar has seen little use, but we do note some light pick scuffs extending beyond the pickguard. These scuffs are evident in indirect light, but they do not have any relief (i.e., they would not be considered gouges or scrapes). Otherwise, this guitar has no cosmetic wear—dents, dings, or scratches—to report. EXCELLENT+ to NEAR MINT CONDITION
