Yamaha RSP20CR Yamaha Revstar RSP20CR Double Cutaway Solidbody Electric in Brushed Black with Dual Fralin Pickups

General Description:

The Yamaha Revstar series is a relatively new line for Yamaha that has captured the attention of many modern guitarists. Based on the Café Racer motorcycles of the 1960s, they are meant to be stripped-down, high performance machines. It features some traditional humbucker guitar specs (such as the maple-topped mahogany body and 24 3/4” scale length) but also has some more modern appointments. Most notably, the Revstar models have a push-pull “Dry” switch that utilizes a passive filter circuit to cut the low end in a way that gives the pickups a sound resembling a single coil but fuller tone and no 60 cycle hum, as the pickups are still in a humbucker configuration. Other modern features include the Graph Tech TUSQ nut, TonePros AVT-II wraparound bridge, and the Yamaha-coined "Initial Response Acceleration" (I.R.A.) Treatment, which is a process using specific vibrations designed to reduce stresses between the guitars components and thereby shorten its initial break-in period and thus improve its resonance.

This particular guitar was upgraded with Fralin pickups, which contribute even more high-octane energy to its performance. Additionally, the tuning machines have been upgraded with Gibson Deluxe Kluson-style tuners.

Cosmetic Condition:

This guitar had been played substantially by its previous owner, and its cosmetic condition definitely reflects such use. The body has sustained several dings and scratches, and the back shows some considerable belt-rash. Most notably, there is evident finish cracking surrounding the neck joint and the back of the headstock the tuning machines (presumably stemming from the installation of the new tuners). While it is likely that the finish cracks surrounding the neck pocket are resultant from a shock, there is no evidence of a structural threat. We also note a large scuff mark on top of the headstock. The pickups appear very aged from years of use, but evidently these upgraded Fralins were purchased with aged nickel covers. Thus, the cosmetic condition of the pickups is not due to any wear from the previous owner. We would rate this guitar as in FAIR+ to GOOD CONDITION.
