2018 Mario Martin NAMM Nocaster Ash T w/Budz Alnico pickups

General Description:

This Mario Martin is one of our favorite T-style guitars in the store... And that’s saying something! There’s something about these guitars that very appealing. They’re as simple as it gets and tend to adapt to each individual players style. Since they are so simple, every electric guitar manufacturer seems to have their own version. Some of them are okay and some are great. This one fits in the latter category.

This particular T-Style guitar was made for the 2018 NAMM show and has several unique features. On first look, the heavy relicing makes this guitar appear as a vintage instrument. It’s meant to replicate a vintage Nocaster and has those vibes in spades. The neck is chunky but never feels cumbersome or overly thick like some vintage Tele necks. The neck also has a compound radius which flattens as you move up the neck, facilitating better bends and faster playing. Plugged in, this guitar has all the sounds that you know and love from these guitars. It has handwound Budz pickups with a mixture of Alnico 5, 4, and 2 magnets, similar to the pickups that Budz made for Danocaster T-style guitars. They have a tone reminiscent of ‘50s era pickups with plenty of spank. Lastly, perhaps the most remarkable thing about this guitar is its weight! It weighs in at a mere 6 lbs., 2 oz. So you can get all that T-Style tone and keep the load off your back at the same time!

Cosmetic Condition:

This guitar is in practically brand new condition though it features quite heavy relicing. Mario Guitars consider this a “Light-Medium” relic but to us it leans more in the heavy direction. As such, it appears very much like a well-loved and well-played vintage guitar. The finish has substantial checking with some dings along the outside edges and the back features some scratches to simulate belt-rash. The neck is listed as having a “Gloss Vintage Tint” but the relic job has removed a fair portion of this finish, giving it a worn in feel that is especially evident in the area from the nut to the 7th fret. The remaining finish has similar checking to the body. Similarly, the hardware and pickguard have an aged and worn in appearance as well.
