Walker, Scott: WALKER SPECIAL(Item ID: WALKER SPECIAL Serial#: 4809)
2016 Walker Custom built Special
Scott Walker is a luthier who made a name for himself working for Richard Hoover at Santa Cruz guitars. He eventually became the Shop Foreman there where he was responsible for all aspects of guitar building. As someone interested in electric guitars, he began working on his own electric designs and eventually decided to open up his own shop.
This Walker Special was custom built for its original owner and it is certainly impressive in its peculiar construction and versatile electronics. It features a chambered body with an Englemann Spruce top on a mahogany back which lends itself to a surprising acoustic quality both plugged and unplugged as well as a very lightweight build. The mahogany neck has a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and the cutaways provide easy access to all 24 frets.
Walker guitars are notable for their advanced electronic systems and this model has a fair amount going on. It has three humbucking pickups with two knobs, three switches, and two output jacks. This is where things get interesting. The knobs act as basic master volume and tone knobs but they features push-push pots that enable secondary features. The volume knob adds a hefty preamp boost when pushed and the tone knob activates a coil tap for all pickups. The first switch is a 3-way pickup selector, offering traditional neck/neck+bridge/bridge selections. Then the second switch controls the middle pickups, allowing you to add it to any of the aforementioned pickup combinations or use it individually. Lastly, the third switch turns the guitars on-board effects loop on and off. This utilizes a TRS output jack and allows you to use the guitars volume knob after any effects that are contained in the loop. This is particular useful for those who like to use effects that are controlled by your dynamics, such as compressors or envelope filters.
This Walker Special is a highly functional work of art with an astounding degree of versatility and the masterful build quality you would expect from someone associated with the pedigree of Santa Cruz Guitars.
This guitar was kept in very good shape by its previous owner. It has some signs of play wear, most notably some small dings that appear on its top, back, and neck, but nothing that impedes playability and most of them are well hidden within the sunburst. This guitar features some unusual but highly decorative sculpting of its wooden body and all of that remains perfect. We would rate this guitar as in VERY GOOD + to EXCELLENT CONDITION.
