1965 Super Reverb with Mixed Speaker Set
Favored by players such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Marr, Derek Trucks, and Robben Ford, the Super Reverb is a Fender amp that doesn’t get quite as much attention as its brethren the Princeton, Deluxe, or Twin. Instead, it’s an amplifier that is unique amidst Fender’s offerings and one that has certainly carved its own path in music history.
The Super Reverb was originally introduced in 1963, with the iconic “Black” Fender control panel. The amp was rated at 40 watts and featured four 10” Jensen speakers. As Fender made the switch to the “Silverface” style, so did the Super. Now upgraded to 45 watts, the amp offered more power, more headroom, and plenty of volume! Blues players came to appreciate the distorted voice that the amp offered when cranked and its volume was plentiful when it came to filling large stages.
This amp has a huge sound, as one would imagine given its 40-watt power and larger size. The low end is plentiful and the Bright switch adds all of that signature Fender sparkling top end. The midrange is rather scooped on this amp and one can easily hear that trademark Bluesy voice when cranked up with a Stratocaster. The onboard Spring Reverb and Tremolo (mistakenly listed as Vibrato like most Fender amps) go from subtle textures to lush ambiance, adding even more dimension to the amplified sound!
Condition:
Despite being nearly 60 years old, this amp is still in impressive condition. There are obvious signs of its age such as marks, scuffs, and tears on the coverings, some discoloring of the grille cloth, and a well-worn footswitch. Perhaps most notably, it has a name and partial address spray-painted on the back and bottom. Additionally, it features a mixed speaker set with 2 original Jensen Speakers and 2 Eminence Speakers (one Patriot Lil’ Buddy and one Rajun Cajun). This amp was recently evaluated by Jeff Bakos of Bakos amp works who did all the work necessary to give it a clean bill of health! Regardless, this amp was well-maintained throughout its life and we would rate it as being in VERY GOOD + CONDITION.
