Shure Classic Dynamic Vocal Microphone
"The Shure SM58 unidirectional (cardioid) dynamic vocal microphone is designed for professional vocal use in live performance, sound reinforcement, and studio recording. It has a tailored vocal response for a sound which is a world standard for singing or speech. A highly effective, built-in spherical filter minimizes wind and breath 'pop' noise. A cardioid pickup pattern isolates the main sound source while minimizing unwanted background noise." - From the Shure Website
Mounted on stands on just about every stage where there has ever been live music, you'll find multiple Shure SM58 vocal microphones. This mic quickly became an industry standard upon its release in 1966. It was based on Unidyne III microphone element developed in the late 1950s by Shure engineer Ernie Seeler that can be easily recognized as the predecessor to the SM58's instrument mic counterpart, the SM57. This mic is widely coveted due to its astoundingly robust design, built in pop-filter and recording quality sound. It is next to impossible to find another microphone that is both as durable and influential as the Shure SM58.
