OM Solid Spruce and Sapele
"This is the quintessential finger-style instrument. With amazing dynamic range, the Orchestra Model runs the gamut from subtle to bold. OM’s are articulate and comfortable to play due to their reduced body depth, and Eastman takes a creative departure from the traditional by equipping our OM’s with a 24.9 scale length." - From the Eastman website.
We began stocking the Eastman line around 2003, when their offerings of fretted instruments were essentially limited to carved hollow body jazz guitars and mandolins – to this day, Eastman archtop guitars and mandolins are arguably uncontested values in their respective markets. Since that time, Eastman has progressively expanded their guitar offerings to the point where there is now tremendous variety and quite a breadth of price points. Throughout this expansion of the line, we’ve been very pleased to observe a consistent commitment to quality construction and compelling tone on the part of the manufacturer. It is always refreshing to work with a company that shares our mission of prioritizing performance value. And, not surprisingly, Eastman‘s commitment to investing in quality has clearly paid off, as their guitars have proven exceedingly popular with our customers, while also gaining respect throughout the industry.
As is often true of brands that concentrate on performance value, the most surprising values are those that the lower end of the price spectrum. This is not to say that models further up the line are not as impressive in terms of value – it’s typically true that you get what you pay for, and one could expect to find a more refined instrument and those further up the line. Still, be they less refined and perhaps more dry in terms of overall tone, the all-solid wood models at the beginning of the Eastman line consistently score well in categories that we can objectively measure: projection, sustain, balance, string separation, note definition, and tone color. Subsequently, we consider the E1 OM and its relative models to be some of the best values that one could hope to find for the money.
