Raw Series Brass 14-Fret
“Raw Series instruments have a minimal, wax body finish giving a naturally smooth feel that will patina over time. They are expertly handcrafted in our California workshop to the high quality standards our reputation is built on. Steel models, like all National steel bodied instruments, have an interior finish to protect against rusting.” – From the National Website
Though most closely associated with the sound of Delta Blues, a National steel bodied instrument is a tool that will allow one to paint a broad swath of ideas. Perhaps most famously played with a slide, it is also at home fingerpicked, strummed, or even as a lead voice in an ensemble.
This particular National has a focused midrange punch and pronounced string attack, making it ideal for fingerstyle blues in the vein of Skip James, or even for the open string droning licks the likes of Junior Kimbrough. When it comes to first position cowboy chords, sonic space is filled sufficient to be a suitable accompaniment to most styles of music, lending its unique voice in a less common way, evocative of the original Nationals of the 1930s.
