Staff Picks

John - Sierra Ferrell’s “Trail of Flowers” - Americana’s Alice in Wonderland has followed up her debut with a strong sophomore effort. All of the tracks stand out as fine examples of traditional and modern country/folk. Sierra is an incredible singer with a pure, soulful approach.

Chris - Fountains of Wayne’s “Utopia Parkway” - Until fairly recently, my knowledge of Fountains of Wayne began and ended with their 2003 hit “Stacy’s Mom.” John Cable was giving this CD away and I was immediately struck by its clever musicality and endearing songwriting. I revisited it this past week and the title-track is still stuck in my head.

Mike - Louis Jordan - “Somebody Up There Digs Me” - A pioneer in the world of jump blues, Louis Jordan is recognized by those in the know as one of the most consequential figures in Rhythm and Blues and the earliest iterations of Rock n Roll.  This particular collection of songs dates from 1956 is functionally a greatest hits album with a lead electric guitar more forward in the mix making already exciting songs like “Caldonia” absolutely transcendent.

Mark - John Cable “Boxcar”- Beautifully crafted songs, thoughtful, understated-yet emotionally moving production from our friend Aaron Rizzo, stellar performances from some of Atlanta’s best musicians and singers all combine for a fantastic listening experience. Oh yeah, John sounds awesome too. Editor's Note: Reviewer was not paid for this endorsement. A+

Brandon -  Raze Regal and White Denim “Raze Regal and White Denim Inc.” - This Austin, Texas/Oakland, California collaboration began years ago while Raze Regal’s former psych-pop group Once and Future Band were opening up for James Petralli’s legendary Austin rock and roll band White Denim on tour. The album began during lockdown when Regal relocated to Austin from Oakland, and linked up with James. The result might sound familiar to long time White Denim fans, as it features their classic, clever, tight and GROOVIN’ time signature changes, only this time enhanced by Regal’s smooth playing and seemingly effortless musicality.
